ULTRASONIC WELDING MACHINES

Ultrasonic welding is a method of joining two or more pieces of thermoplastic materials through the use of mechanical vibrations of high frequencies. The operating frequency is usually 20 kHz. because it is above the audible range of the human beings. The vibrations produce molecular movements that travel through one of the samples to the joining surface, where the molecules become inserted in the others. Some heating is caused by molecular collisions, but not enough to change the physical characteristics of the samples.

Once the welding is achieved, the ultrasonic energy is disconnected, and the heat produced vanishes quickly. In some cases, it is necessary to design the joining surfaces in order to produce frictional heating. The friction is greater at the joint interface and the heat melts the thermoplastic samples. The joining is always carried out under pressure.

Ultrasonic thermoplastic joining techniques include welding, spot welding, staking, swaging and inserting. Another ultrasonic plastic processing method is cutting and sealing
